Benny Elledge will make his Broadway debut in Waitress beginning December 19. He’ll take on the role of diner manager Cal. Eric Anderson, who originated the role when the production opened last year at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, took his final bow December 17.
Elledge appeared as Amos Hart in the national tour of Chicago. His regional credits include Spamalot, Billy Elliot, and Buddy in North Carolina, as well as early engagements of the once-Broadway-aimed Nerds. He’s also appeared in guest stints on the small screen in Gotham, Blue Bloods, and The Detour.
Waitress currently stars Betsy Wolfe in the central role of Jenna; as previously announced, the show’s composer, Sara Bareilles, will step into the role beginning January 16, 2018. The Tony- and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter made her Broadway stage debut earlier this year in the musical, succeeding original star Jessie Mueller.
The cast also includes Jason Mraz as Dr. Pomatter (through January 28), Tony nominees Christopher Fitzgerald and Will Swenson as Ogie and Earl, respectively, Natasha Yvette Williams as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, and John Cullum as Joe.
