Scottsboro Boys Tony nominee Colman Domingo has joined the cast of Oscar-winning Moonlight director Barry Jenkins’ upcoming drama, If Beale Street Could Talk, according to Variety.

Adapted from the 1974 James Baldwin novel of the same title, the film centers on a pregnant Harlem woman whose lover is falsely accused of rape. Domingo will co-star alongside Regina King, Stephan James, and Kiki Layne.

Filming is currently underway in New York.

Domingo, an accomplished playwright, actor, and director, is presently known for his role on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. He recently directed Ken Urban’s A Guide for Homesick, which runs through November 4 at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston. Domingo was Tony and Olivier Award-nominated for his work in Kander and Ebb’s The Scottsboro Boys, and has been seen on Broadway in Passing Strange, Chicago, and Well.

He is also developing his Off-Broadway play Dot for AMC. The project, titled In the Middle of the Street, centers on a family in fading West Philadelphia who confront old secrets as they face a changing present. Domingo is executive-producing the project.
