Keala Settle’s EP, Chapter One, drops January 11 on all digital platforms.
Settle made her Broadway debut in 2011 as part of the ensemble of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, but captured the industry’s attention when she starred as Norma Valverde in Hands on a Hardbody and earned a Tony nomination. Her talents led her to originate the role of Madame Thénardier in the 2014 revival of Les Misérables and the role of Becky in the original musical Waitress.
Now, she’s the talk of the town for her work in the original movie musical The Greatest Showman, which was released in cinemas nationwide December 20. The movie’s songwriters called out Settle in their Golden Globe acceptance speech January 7, when they won for Best Original Song for “This Is Me.” The film’s single is Settle’s solo and a battle cry for embracing one’s uniqueness.
Chapter One features five tracks, including her version of “The Rose” made famous by fellow Broadway diva Bette Midler.
Settle’s Greatest Showman co-star Hugh Jackman calls the album “unbelievable” in the video below.
