Shears, who is succeeding Stark Sands, will play a limited run through April 1, while Maldonado will stay in the show through April 8. The role of Lauren is currently being played by DeLaney Westfall, who will play her final performance February 1.

Also joining the cast of the Broadway production next year will be J. Harrison Ghee, who will return as Lola beginning January 8, 2018. He will succeed Billy Porter.

“I have been dreaming of doing Broadway, and my wish got answered tenfold,” Shears said. “I couldn't be more excited about doing Kinky Boots on Broadway; it’s going to be a delicious challenge! Believe it or not, they're going to be the first stilettos I'll ever have worn. My feet are so big, I've never seen a pair that would actually fit me."

Shears is the lead singer of the pop group the Scissor Sisters and recently wrapped up recording his solo album, for release in 2018. He also wrote the music for the 2011 stage musical Tales of the City.

“Being on Broadway has been my ultimate bucket list goal since I was eight years old so I'm so excited to join such an incredible cast to share this special story!!,” said Maldonado, a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and one-fifth of the acapella group Pentatonix.

In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price is struggling to run his family’s shoe factory. When he meets the dazzling Lola, they discover together that real inspiration comes from being true to yourself. The musical features a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.
