Jocelyn Bioh’s School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play will now play an additional two weeks due to popular demand. The world premiere from MCC Theater, directed by Tony winner Rebecca Taichman, opened to a slew of positive reviews November 16.
Performances of School Girls began November 1 in the Lucille Lortel Theatre and will now continue through December 23 instead of the originally scheduled December 10.
School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play tells a coming of age story set in an all-girls boarding school in Ghana in the ‘80s. The play explores themes of beauty, colorism, and female adolescence.
The Off-Broadway production marks the professional playwriting debut of playwright and actor Bioh.
