The New Group celebrated the Off-Broadway opening of Seth Zvi Rosenfeld’s play Downtown Race Riot December 3. Artistic Director Scott Elliott directs the world-premiere production in the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
Downtown Race Riot recalls a summer day in 1976 New York City when a mob of young men descended on Washington Square Park and attacked people of color. In a cramped apartment in the Village, as the riot rages, a single mother, her son, and his best friend wrestle to find their place in the conflict.
The cast is made up of Chloë Sevigny, Cristian DeMeo, David Levi, Moise Morancy, Josh Pais, Sadie Scott, and Daniel Sovich. The production began performances November 14.
