International News Meera Syal Will Be Annie’s New Miss Hannigan in London Production The actor joins the company in November.

Producers Michael Harrison and David Ian have announced that Meera Syal will assume the role of Miss Hannigan beginning November 27 in the London production of Annie at the Piccadilly Theatre.

The actor is scheduled to continue in the Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin musical through the end of the production’s run, currently scheduled for February 18, 2018. The show will then play a five-week engagement at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre.

Syal’s numerous theatre credits include the recent a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun) at the Royal Court Theatre, Romeo & Juliet at the Garrick Theatre, Behind the Beautiful Forevers and Rafta Rafta for the National Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and more. Syal was made an MBE in 1997 and a CBE in 2015. As a writer, Syal collaborated with Annie book writer Meehan on the Broadway musical Bombay Dreams.

Syal joins a cast that includes Alex Bourne as Daddy Warbucks, Holly Dale Spencer as Grace Farrell, Jonny Fines as Rooster, and Djalenga Scott as Lily. Madelein Haynes, Lola Moxom, and Ruby Stokes share the title role. The company also features Russell Wilcox, Bobby Delaney, Keisha Atwell, Sophie Ayers, Nic Gibney, Patrick Harper, Ben Harrold, George Ioannides, Megan Louch, Benjamin Mundy, Ben Oliver, Heather Scott-Martin, Anne Smith, Kate Somerset How, and Katie Warsop.

Directed by Nikolai Foster, the West End production features scenic and costume design by Colin Richmond, choreography by Nick Winston, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Richard Brooker, and orchestrations and musical direction by George Dyer.
