Cabaret & Concert News Kathleen Turner to Headline October 15 Arts Festival for International Human Rights in NYC The event will help inaugurate Culture Project’s new space in lower Manhattan.

Oscar-winning actor Kathleen Turner will headline The International Human Rights Art Festival October 15, described as a diverse evening of socially conscious theatre, dance, music, comedy, and storytelling, designed to offer “positive solutions with humor, insight and incredible artistic talent.”

Also featuring performances from Maybe Burke, Tom Tsai, Angela Polite, Jacqueline Dugal, and others, the event is scheduled for 7:30 PM at The Grand Hall at Saint Mary Church at 440 Grand Street in New York City

Turner, who is also a two-time Tony Award nominee and a two-time Golden Globe Award-winning actor and director, will perform a monologue concerning citizenship from her one-woman play Red Hot Patriot, about journalist Molly Ivins.

Among other highlights, the festival will also include:

* An improv segment, Thank You for Coming Out, in which a person’s coming-out story will be brought to life by improvisers Alex Song (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon), Michael Hartney (School of Rock), Kelsey Bailey (Upright Citizens Brigade), Kelley Quinn (UCB), and Nikita Burdein (Magnet).

* A selection from Accidental Trans Anthems: a cabaret of songs “you didn't know were meant for trans people,” performed by Maybe Burke, a director, choreographer, writer, performer, and trans advocate.

* Alika Hope: Until ALL Are Free, None Will Be: A message on freedom and hope sung through African-American spirituals and 20th-century social justice songs.

* Appreciation, a monologue by Katie Pearl from a collection of international short plays on climate, performed by Peyton Lustig as part of Climate Change Theatre Action.

The festival is being held in conjunction with the Culture Project organization, to inaugurate the group’s new space in Manhattan’s Lower East Side,
