Like the heel of its title footwear, Brendon Urie has given Kinky Boots a lift since taking over as Charlie Price. The Panic! At the Disco frontman began performances May 26 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, and the Tony-winning musical has bounced back into the millionaires’ club for the first two weeks of his limited engagement.
As expected, Kinky Boots’ capacity has increased above 90 percent, while its gross potential has hovered around there as well as Panic! fans catch the lead singer’s Broadway debut.
The last time the musical had made over $1 million in a non-holiday week was Wayne Brady's final set of performances as Lola in the week ending March 27, 2016.
Meanwhile, Broadway juggernaut Hamilton once again took the top spot in the grosses for the week ending June 4, reaching over $3 million at $3,054,910 (over 116 percent of its potential). Among those also reaching seven figures were The Lion King, Hello, Dolly!, Wicked, Aladdin, and Waitress, which currently boasts its composer Sara Bareilles in the leading role through June 11.
A Doll’s House, Part 2 took in its highest gross of its run at $452,694. While this figure is significantly behind those of Broadway’s blockbusters, the play’s gross has consistently risen each week after opening, and a slew of Tony nominations could be the key to earning closer to its potential. The comedy also just announced an extension into 2018.
