The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will kick off the 2017–18 PNC Pops Series in October with four concerts celebrating the music of famed trumpeter Louis Armstrong and jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald.

Performances of Ella and Louis are scheduled for October 6 at 10:45 AM and 8 PM, October 7 at 8 PM, and October 8 at 3 PM at Orchestra Hall, within Midtown Detroit’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.

Conducted by Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik, the concerts will feature vocalist/trumpeter Byron Stripling and vocalist Carmen Bradford. Attendees can expect to hear such standards as “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Love is Here to Stay,” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing).”

April 25, 2017, will mark 100 years since the birth of Ms. Fitzgerald.
