Galvin, who makes his Broadway debut, succeeds Ben Platt, who created the role to Tony-winning effect and played his final performance November 19. (Taylor Trensch, currently starring on Broadway in Hello, Dolly!, will be Broadway's Evan Hansen starting in mid-January 2018.)

“Evan is such a complex and rewarding role, and I can’t wait to see Noah and Taylor make it their own,” director Michael Greif said in an earlier statement. “Nothing excites me more than working with young talent, and both young men are incredibly skilled and surprising performers.”

“We’re excited to welcome Noah and Taylor to our Dear Evan Hansen Family and I’m deeply joyful that our other original company members will remain in our show,” added producer Stacey Mindich. “As we embark on casting for the national tour and future productions of the show, it’s thrilling to begin discovering new, exciting talent for this unique role.”

Galvin previously commented on his casting on Instagram, writing, "It's incredible and affirming that I now get to carry on this legacy and be a part of something so special."

DEAR EVAN HANSEN TO LAUNCH NATIONAL TOUR IN 2018

Galvin has appeared in Off-Broadway productions at New York’s Signature Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, MCC, The Vineyard, The Public, The Culture Project, The Flea, The Wild Project, New York Theater Workshop, the Barrow Street Theater, Rattlestick, Ensemble Studio Theater, and more. He appeared in the world premiere of Ace, directed by Stafford Arima, at the Cincinnati Playhouse in 2006. In 2010, he originated the role of Dusty in Playwrights Horizons’ production of The Burnt Part Boys. (Dear Evan Hansen co-star Michael Park, who plays Larry Murphy, starred in that same production.)

On ABC's The Real O’Neals, Galvin played Kenny, a high schooler coming to terms with his sexuality in a tight-knit Catholic family. He put his musical theatre chops to work in an original song and dance about his character’s first relationship.

Dear Evan Hansen features a score by the Tony- and Oscar-winning songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story), a book by Tony winner Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex), choreography by Danny Mefford (Fun Home), and direction by multiple Tony nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then).

Original cast members Laura Dreyfuss, Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Tony nominee Mike Faist, Michael Park, and Will Roland have all extended their contracts and will remain with the musical through May 2018. Kristolyn Lloyd will depart in March.

In October Platt teamed up with the show’s incoming title players for a ’70s-inspired music video shot on the streets of New York City. Watch it below.
