As speculated, the hits of Donna Summer will come to Broadway this spring. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical will begin performances March 28, 2018, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, where it will officially open April 23.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will play its final performance at the theatre January 14 as previously announced.

Summer comes directly from La Jolla Playhouse, where the world premiere engagement is scheduled to run through December 24.

WHAT DID CRITICS THINK OF SUMMER: THE DONNA SUMMER MUSICAL WORLD PREMIERE?

Featuring songs from Summer’s iconic catalog and a book by director Des McAnuff, Colman Domingo, and Robert Cary, the musical features three women portraying the title disco star at various stages of her career: Duckilng Donna, Disco Donna, and Diva Donna. Though casting for Broadway has yet to be officially confirmed, the La Jolla staging starred Storm Lever, Ariana DeBose, and LaChanze in the three variations of Summer.

Summer features choreography by Sergio Trujillo, music supervision by Ron Melrose, set design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewelll, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, and projection design by Sean Nieuwenhuis. Tommy Mottola and the Dodgers produce.

Tickets for the Broadway premiere will go on sale via Ticketmaster January 8.
