New York City Ballet principal dancer Amar Ramasar, who will play Jigger in the upcoming Broadway revival of Carousel, is also set to appear in the new dance film Meta. The fantasy drama, now in development with producer Golan Ramraz attached, will celebrate its initial phase of production with an immersive dance event held in a private residence in Brooklyn October 17.

Meta offers a glimpse into a dancer’s struggle to find himself off the stage. Told in four movements that echo the life cycle of a moth, the film follows Alex, a dancer attempting to navigate a world without dance after a career-ending injury. Ramasar will play his friend Robin; Alex is played by choreographer Misha Braun, himself a former professional dancer. Abigail Classey also stars.

“When transitioning from dance to acting and film, my dream was always to find a way to capture the world of dance in an authentic way. Like a moth’s metamorphosis, that transition has been filled with trials and tribulations,” says Braun, who is also co-creator and executive producer.

The October 17 event will feature a performance by Ramasar and fellow New York City Ballet dancers Andrew Veyette, Ashley Hod, and Lexi Maxwell. The evening is choreographed by Ramasar and Braun with original music by Stephanie Singer, the film’s composer. The event is private; anyone wishing to attend can contact the production company behind Meta, With You Films ([email protected]).

The production team for Meta is made up of Ramasar (executive producer), Braun, Classey (co-creator and executive producer), Ramraz (producer), Rula Al-Nasrawi (writer and co-creator), Rebecca Arndt (director of photography), Julia Joyce-Barry (production designer), Rod Bastanmehr (writer), Pegah Yazd (writer), Blaire O’Leary (associate producer), Philip Hodge, and (visualizer/graphic designer). Shane Allen, Alex Joy Pucci, and Fiona Hardingham (Dynasty) are also in the cast.

Meta is produced by With You Films. Shooting will begin next summer, and a release date will be announced at a later date.
