Tveit stars as Christian, a poet who becomes obsessed with the beautiful singer and courtesan Satine (Olivo) who performs at the famed Parisian nightclub. The roles were originated on screen by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in the 2001 film.

The lab continues through November 30.

MOULIN ROUGE! MUSICAL SETS CREATIVE TEAM AHEAD OF FALL LAB

Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) directs the stage adaptation of the Oscar-nominated film musical, which has a book by Tony-winning playwright John Logan (Red).

Set at the decadent Parisian nightclub Moulin Rouge, the hit film re-contextualized classic rock and contemporary pop hits—along with a few Broadway showtunes—to create a theatrical, character-driven score. The only original song in the film is “Come What May,” written by David Baerwald and Kevin Gilbert.

The creative team for Moulin Rouge! includes Emmy-nominated choreographer Sonya Tayeh, Tony winners Derek McLane and Catherine Zuber (set and costume design, respectively), Tony nominees Justin Townsend (lighting) and Peter Hylenski (sound), and Drama Desk-winning wig designer David Brian Brown.

The music department is led by music producer Matt Stine and orchestrator/arranger Justin Levine.

An official announcement of the musical’s premiere engagement will be announced at a later date.
